Amelie

Montmartre green, and a red that will not sit still

EverBox.Space dashboard in the Amélie theme — Montmartre green, and a red that will not sit still

The aesthetic

Jeunet pushed that film so far into green and red that it stopped being a grade and became a character. The green is not a forest green - it is warm, slightly yellow, the colour of a lamp shining through a bottle. The dials climb through exactly that.

Red is the counterweight, and in the film it is always attached to something the story cares about. Here it is the buttons: the things you press. Gold sits in the background bloom, so the page has a lamplit quality rather than a daylit one.

What stays calm

Three saturated colours is more than this app normally allows, which is why they are strictly separated: green on the dials, red on the controls, gold in the background and nowhere near the text. Glass stays neutral. Type never changes. The colour does all the talking and the layout stays quiet.

Who it is for

For countdowns to small good things. For people who like their software to have a bit of warmth in it. And for anyone who thinks a dashboard is allowed to be charming.

Amelie EverBox theme

An EverBox palette for countdowns, timers and shared spaces. Every dial sits in the same leaf green, on a ground so dark it reads as the shadow under a tree. The controls take the red, and there is only ever one of it.

Colour palette

Four dials brightening through green: the year a deep moss, the month the green of a summer hedge, the day a vivid grass, and the hour a young shoot lit from behind. The ground beneath is near-black with a green cast, the panels a dark olive above it. The controls are a single warm red — the film's red, used sparingly, the way it is on screen.
