Interstellar

ice blue a very long way from a wheat field

EverBox.Space dashboard in the Interstellar theme — ice blue a very long way from a wheat field

The aesthetic

That film has two palettes and the whole story is the gap between them: the cold blue-grey of every interior, and the warm dust-gold of the farm nobody can get back to. The dials take the blue - practical, instrument-lit, the colour of a room built for staying alive rather than for living in.

The gold is what the blue is measured against. It sits on the buttons and in the faint bloom at the background edge, small and warm and a long way off. Every countdown in this app is a version of the same idea, which is why this theme suits it.

What stays calm

The starfield is static, as it is in the other space themes: real stars do not twinkle without an atmosphere in the way, and a moving backdrop would undo the stillness. Glass stays neutral, type is untouched, and the blue never touches the body text.

Who it is for

For the very long countdown - the one measured in years, where the number barely moves day to day. For a second screen that should feel like an instrument panel. And for anyone who finds it comforting rather than sad that time passes at different rates depending on where you stand.

Interstellar EverBox theme

An EverBox palette for countdowns, timers and shared spaces. Every dial sits in the same ice blue, on a ground of deep space with a little blue left in it. The controls are wheat gold — the one warm colour, and it is a long way away.

Colour palette

Four dials brightening through blue: the year a dark navy like water under ice, the month a steel blue, the day the blue of a cold sky at altitude, and the hour a pale washed powder. Behind them a near-black that keeps its blue rather than going neutral, panels a shade of midnight above it. The controls take a soft harvest gold — a wheat field, remembered.
